''Not to be confused with Ayya Khema'' Ayu Khandro, formally Ayu Khandro Dorje Paldrön (1839–1953) was a teacher of Dzogchen and Tantric Buddhism in East Tibet. She is known for spending many years in dark retreat, and for her practice of chöd. She was a student of both Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Nyala Pema Dündul. She also received teachings from Adzom Drukpa Drodul Pawo Dorje (a 'dzom 'brug pa 'gro 'dul dpa' bo rdo rje, 1842-1924), and the First Jamgon Kongtrul (jam mgon kong sprul, 1813-1899). Ayu Khandro gave teachings to the Dzogchen master Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche in 1951, including the Vajrayogini empowerment.〔Allione, Tsultrim (2000). '('Women of Wisdom )''.
